Exploring Composition
This assignment was lots of fun. I got to roll around in the grass and take pictures of my BJD (Ball-Jointed Doll for those unfamiliar with the term). BJD's were basically the only things I took pictures of in my teenage years and I was really excited when I found out I was taking a digital photography course because now I can finally take good pictures of my dolls again instead of trying and failing with a cell phone camera and a window.
For this assignment I had to focus on things like lighting, angle, aperture, point of view etc.
It was hard to decide what picture was the best. Mostly because Nienor, my subject, is just so beautiful and also I'm biased because I did her face-up.
In the end, I went with this one because the angle and point of view are unique and I love that I was able to capture the wisps of hair blowing in the wind. I learned that you can't just do what's expected with things like point of view. While I love looking at her face, I think the far more interesting pictures are the ones that didn't turn out like headshots. Or mugshots.
Rolling around in the grass yesterday I also finally learned how to accurately set the f-stop to get the results I was looking for. So most of the pictures turned out well, aside from some lighting problems with trying to figure out how much sun and how much shade I needed to not blow her out. She is white skin after all.
And now for the fun part!
Sorry there's still more....
I took about a hundred photos so really I'm saving you a hassle.
