Think Outside the Box
I’m at a loss as to what I want to blog about this week, so I’m opting to talk about my first project for my digital video and audio editing class.
The project was to create a series of three Instagram stories. I knew right away I wanted to make the project about Out of the Box.
Out of the Box is a joy to be a part of and I can’t imagine my life without it.

"Out of the Box is Lakeland Community Theatre's "troupe
with unique abilities." This troupe of special needs actors has grown to
over 100 current members ages 10 to 60+ (including 25 teenage volunteers).
These very unique and talented individuals share a passion for theatre, and
they are having a blast getting to do what they love! The group was formed Fall
2011 by LCT staff, parents, and volunteers. The troupe meets once a week at
Lakeland Community Theatre, located in the Lake Mirror Complex. During class,
they work on improvisation, scene work, dance, poetry, music, social skills,
and more. Twice a year, the troupe performs a production for the community.
This free program helps individuals with developmental disabilities to find a
purpose and feel the rush of performing the same way any other actor does - one
of the most beautiful experiences anyone could ever imagine!"
I work for Lakeland Community Theatre, and I’m also an instructor for Out of the Box, and have been involved with the program since it’s beginning.
The first week of class also happened to be tech week for our spring semester show, and it was the first time I had missed a tech rehearsal or a performance since I started. Because of this I took on the responsibility of teaching my friend David how to operate a spotlight. That didn’t work out quite how I imagined, because he wasn’t there the first night, I wasn’t there the second night, and by the third night he already knew what he was doing! I’m so proud of him! I did manage to get some film of him spotting so I was at least useful in some respect.
The only problem was, I filmed everything before I knew what I was doing! Instagram stories have a 9:16 ratio not a 16:9 like most video formats. But even though I did my research AFTER filming, I was able to save all that footage and change the ratio. I had to scale everything, but I learned some cool effects to make it more interesting.
So without any further rambling, here is the video! Here is a link to it as well in case the video here it too small to view. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_XaYOiIAlc
