Look at Me and the Way I Ask for Forgiveness, Kindness and Help
Animating
kinetic typography is a beast.
I say
this to be punny, and also because it almost kicked my butt.
I was
having fun, and I got over ambitious as I tend to do, and I ran out of time and
had shorten the project I was working on. It still works. I still met the
requirements, but I ended up with 42 seconds instead of the near minute and a
half I had anticipated. I could have gone a bit longer, but I think I’d be
working on the next 40 seconds for another week and that is Against The Rules.
The question that might be asked is why specifically 42 seconds, and why was
the only other alternative to go overboard and have double the required time?
The answer
is I chose a very specific song with very specific beats and sections that
would not work broken up in any other way than 42 seconds or 1 minute 20
seconds.
I…let me stop talking and just show you the video I made.
That was mine! I made that!
I’m pleased with the result and the
effort I made, even if it’s not Extra EXTRA Above and Beyond (shut up,
Bridgette. No one likes a show off). But maybe now what I was saying makes a
little more sense, because after that it changes tempo and style or whatever
(for a theatre background I sure don’t know music words) and there’s no clear
break, while ending it here has the perfect couple of beats for a nice, clean
ending even if you can tell the story isn’t quite over.
I picked this song in the first place
because of the fun back and forth between them, which would have been more if I
could have finished what I wanted. I thought also it gave me some fun design
choices to play with. I took inspiration from the music video for the colors
and the background, and for the two different typefaces I wanted something that
was strong, but also a little messy and dirty, and eroded like it’s been locked
away for 20 years, and also one that was that but with a little flourish
because Femininity I guess.
Here is the original music video so you can compare if you’d like, and also because it’s just fun.
If I had it in me, I’d do the whole five minutes, but I don’t
know if my parents could stand to be around an unhinged, crying Bridgette, who
might possibly scream and throw things when technology doesn’t do what they
want. (This is Another Sign that maybe I should pursue writing instead, since
problems that arise with software and computer programs, be it my fault or no,
make me want to rip out throats, and writing……does not do that. Just something
I find noteworthy)
I did
have fun, despite occasionally wanting to throw my laptop out the window.
